St Augustine’s takes 3rd place in the Subroto Cup

The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious inter-school football tournament that is held annually in New Delhi. The Tournament is named after the first Indian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee. It is an annual event that began in 1960. It is a unique tournament in which U14 and U17 champion school teams from all states and foreign countries participate -making it one of the most noteworthy school-level football competitions.

Our U14 and U17 teams took part in the district level eliminations and both teams won the playoffs for third place.

The under 14 team played against St Xavier’s in the semis and almost beat them. They were leading 3-1 for a good part of the game but somehow eventually managed to lose 4-3. They beat Experts International School (Virar) 5-2 to take the third place trophy

The U 17 team had to play Mount Carmel in their semi final who had the huge advantage of having class 11 players in their team. Even so our team did extremely well but could not avoid a narrow 1-0 defeat. They kind of made up for that by beating Vidya Vikasini School by a thumping margin of 4 goals to zero in the third place play offs.

Congrats to all our players,to our coach Sir Murugan and to our PEd teachers Sirs Barry and Brice. You did very well.
