Picnics were reintroduced into the list of school activities in early 2019. However,these were day picnics where all participants got home safe and sound by the evening of the same day – much to the relief of both the teachers and parents concerned.This year students of class 10,under the supervision of Sirs Barry and Brice, were able to take it to the next level – they went for an overnight picnic !!!
Here’s a description of this historic event.
On Friday the 25th of August 2023,at the unearthly hour of 7 am, the students gathered, still half-asleep, clambered into the bus and departed at 7:30 am for their much-anticipated overnight camping extravaganza.
The adventure began with the adventurers bravely taking their seats on the bus, perhaps wondering if they’d packed enough snacks for this epic odyssey. After what felt like an eternity (actually just 2 hours), they arrived at their ultimate destination – the Ambivali Resort. During this bus journey, laughter and mischief reigned supreme, making the driver wish he had worn noise cancelling headphones for the trip .
During the journey there was also the sacred Snack Time, an event of epic proportions that left every student with bloated tummies and a deeply rooted appreciation for all things munchable. It’s safe to say that the after the snacks the aisle in the bus had seen better and cleaner days.
Upon arrival at the resort, the students were greeted by the foreman, a guide who, let’s be honest, had the patience of a saint, considering he was dealing with a bunch of overenthusiastic teenagers. He laid down the law, explaining how this camp shindig was going to roll and what each student’s duties would entail. Then, like a group of distracted monkeys, they were released to find their rooms.
Later,once the rooms were found, the students were summoned and told to divide themselves into two groups, with two brave souls elected as captains. And so, the games began! There were six activities in total, including rock climbing, ladder climbing, net crossing, zip-lining, archery, and shooting practice. It’s a wonder nobody got lost in the forest during archery with all those arrows flying about.
After conquering three of these wild endeavors, both groups were corralled together for a momentous event – a football match. The energy in the air was palpable, and it might have been too much for some, as an unfortunate collision occurred, resulting in an abrupt stop to the proceedings.
As the day meandered on, all the activities were checked off the list. The boys had a splash in the pool and engaged in playful banter with the ever-watchful supervisor.
The night descended, and what do you know, it was time to boogie. The dance floor turned into a battlefield of rhythm, where no embarrassing move went unnoticed.
In the morning, the boys embarked on an expedition to explore the surrounding mountains, where they had a riveting encounter with goats and some particularly photogenic trees. Back at base camp, they took another plunge into the pool, emerging as human prunes. Tea time followed, and with heavy hearts (probably due to all the snacks), they bid farewell to their newfound paradise, saying goodbye to an adventure that had more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie.
