SAS father and son make a formidable Table Tennis team

Suresh Kurup (SSC 1997) and Ansh Kurup ( SSC 2031 – he’s currently in class 3 ) make a seriously formidable Table Tennis team.

They performed very well at the 5th Palghar District Table Tennis Ranking Tournament .It was organized by Ameya Classic Club in Virar, on September 30th and October 1st.

Ansh played in the Under 11 category and his dad played in the Veterans Category ( Born before December 31, 1984)

This tournament was the 5th and final ranking tournament for the district. The player with the highest accumulated points from all five ranking tournaments would be selected to represent the district in the State Championship.

In the U11 category, due to a limited number of entries, the participants were asked to compete in a league format. Rhys Macwana emerged as the winner by defeating both Ansh Kurup and Prasanna Walinjkar. Prasanna, who defeated Ansh, was declared the runner-up, and Ansh secured the 3rd position. Since all three of these young players had previously won, finished as runners-up, or reached the semi-finals in the last four ranking tournaments, all of them earned the opportunity to represent Palghar District in the U11 category at the State Championship.

The Veterans Category, designated for participants aged above 39, had a total of 8 contestants. Suresh Kurup played against Mathew in the quarter-finals, securing a 3-0 victory. In the semi-finals, he went on to defeat Victor Almedia, after a closely contested match. The final match featured Suresh Kurup faced off against Biju Moni, and it was another thrilling contest that went down to the wire. Despite being 8-10 down in the final set, Suresh Kurup managed to level the score with two consecutive points. However, he couldn’t maintain that winning streak and went on to lose the next two points. Alas Biju Moni claimed the final with a set score of 3-2.

Both the finalists, Suresh Kurup and Biju Moni, along with the semi-finalists Victor Almedia and Vinay Thakur, were selected to represent Palghar District in the State Championship.

Thus both father and son, both from St Augustine’s,will be representing Palghar district at the state TT championships

That is quite an amazing achievement

Congratulations Suresh and Ansh.
