Farewell to 2024

As the sun sets for the last time in 2024 here’s a summary of the activities we had in school before we closed for the Christmas Holidays.

Christmas Mass

The last event in school was the Christmas Mass which was celebrated in the school hall on the 23rd of December. His Lordship Bishop Thomas D’souza was the main celebrant of the Eucharist.Bishop Thomas, with his warm and approachable demeanor, began the Mass with an inspiring welcome, emphasizing the importance of faith, unity, and the spirit of community. The liturgy was marked by the students actively participating in the readings, intercessions and offertory prayers. The choir sang some beautiful Christmas themed hymns.

The Bishop’s homily was a delight, weaving together anecdotes from his days as a student in St Augustine’s with profound spiritual insights. He spoke about the importance of kindness, compassion, and the strength of faith in overcoming life’s challenges. His message was clear and resonant, encouraging the young minds to live with purpose, integrity and belief in themselves.

The Joy of Giving

On the 20th of December about 12 students went with Ms. Clemia,Ms Jessie and Ms Venecia to ‘Maria Rafols, Shantivan (Children’s Medical Centre)’, Merces. We reached there at about 5:00 pm. We first started with a prayer, guided by the Sister. Then, the children, students and the teachers had a short dance on the song ‘Kaun he’. Some Fun games were carried out, some in groups, and the winners were awarded with sweets. After some nice snacks we students then sang 3 Christmas Carols. A group photo was taken and we returned to school at about 6:15 pm. Overall, the event was extraordinary. Once we met the people there, we realized that they are not different from anyone. I hope trips like these are organized in the future more often. .
