A report on the third annual Br Gregory Fernandes Memorial Inter School Football Tournament.
Our first match on Friday was against Nazareth School and they were no match for us.We beat them 3-0.Yash and Aaron were the goal scorers.That was our only game on that day as our victory took us to the semifinals.The semifinal would be played on Sunday.Our B team also played very well but they could not score against Mount Carmel school in their first game.They lost the penalty shoot out and were eliminated from the competition.
Semi Final
The other teams that made it to the semi finalis were Isaac Newton School,Mount Carmel School and Rustomjee Cambridge School.
We had to play Isaac Newton School for our semi final game.They had a very good goalkeeper and some good defenders.However we still managed to defeat them fairly easily.The final score was 2-0 and the goals were scored by Vivian Lewis and Aaron Surti.Our winning margin would have been higher but their goalkeeper Kavya made many saves. In the other semi final Rustomjee Cambridge school defeated Mount Carmel School.
Finals
It was very hot and we were glad to get some rest before playing the final game against Rustomjee Cambridge School.
The final was the toughest game.Our team had many opportunities to score but didn’t manage to break their defence. The ball was in their half for most of the game but at the end the score was 0-0.
The game thus went to penalties.The first four penalty takers Aaron,Vivian,Kairon and Kriyansh all scored.The first four penalty takers of the opposing team were also successful. Our goalkeeper Varun Mishra then made a super save .He blocked the fifth shot taken by Rustomjee Cambridge.Yash Mali had to take our last shot. He is one of the best players in our squad.He did not let the pressure of the moment get to him. He confidently converted the last penalty and we had the great joy of winning the Gregory Memorial Cup for the second successive year.

Congratulations to all the students who participated. Thanks to the Augustine’s Vasai Alumni for organising the event very well.Thanks and congratulations to our Football Coach Sir Murugan for leading our team to a second consecutive win.

This type of inter school tournaments gives immense exposures to the young Footballers and they gain a lot as an experience to face much bigger and stronger teams in future
There was a good response by all the schools inspite of the dates getting postponed

I really enjoyed all the matches and loved the team spirit of all the 9 schools which participated.
All the matches were played with fairness and not to forget the sharpness of the referees to call at each foul and were fair to all the teams
