A very important high point of every Augustinian’s school year is the Annual Sports events. And this year was no different.
The sun shone nice and bright and there was a nip in the air and anticipation in our hearts. The chief guest for the day was our very own ex-teacher Mrs Caroline Gonsalves.
We also had members of the Provincial Leadership Team and our ex- principal Br Ryan Fernandes gracing the occasion. Ms Caroline declared the Sports open.
Ms Joyce Pinto was the compere and Ms Geetha Aiyar was the scorekeeper. The Junior and the Senior contingents of the 4 Houses led by the School Captain, Asst School Captain ,the vice captains, captains and sports captains marched by smartly .
Prakhar Chaube, the School Captain then led the gathered athletes in the oath of good sportsmanship.Krist Dsouza fired up his keyboard and the melodious trio – Elijah,Aditya and Robin then led the school in the singing of the school anthem.
The 100 metre races followed- and all those vying for the title of the fastest runner of St Augustine’s for the year 2018 got one shot at glory.
Then came the event that was meant for the heavyweights of the school.
The Tug of War for the seniors was an entertaining and closely fought battle between the stalwarts of Keane House and Whiting House.
They demonstrated to the audience two important life rules. One that it is ok to fall, but important to rise after the fall and secondly to try and try and try their very best for their team.Keane House were the eventual winners.
Many athletic events and occasional prize distributions followed.
The final event for the morning was a spectacular and colourful drill display by the students of classes 5,6,7 and 8.
Days of practice finally paid off with the boys doing full justice to all the training that they had gone through for the last three weeks or so.
Then, like all good things,Sports 2018 too came to an end with the final walkpast, closing ceremony and the final prize distribution.Congratulations to everyone for that wonderful Sports Day.
And finally,at the end of it all,the staff posed for a group photograph to celebrate the successes of the day.
