The journey of my class 9 A in the cricket tournament – by Varun Kurup
We finally got a chance to play a long awaited inter class cricket tournament in December 2021. The 9 A team was all, ready for their first match -which was to be played against 9 C.
Day 1: It was a bright morning and the two captains came forward for the toss. 9 C won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 77 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Chasing 78 runs 9 A came to bat. Wickets fell at regular intervals. But we successfully chased down the target and won by 2 wickets in the end.
Day 2: The match against 9 D. 9 A won the toss and elected to field. Batting first 9 D scored 68 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Once again we chased down the target and won the match quite easily by 6 wickets. Since 9 A won both of our league matches we qualified for the finals. 9B were the other finalists.
Day 3 the final day : The final against 9B. 9 B won the toss and elected to field.For the first time in the tournament 9A found themselves batting first. We unfortunately managed to make only 46 runs in the stipulated 10 overs, It was our lowest score in the tournament.9B had to chase a mere 47 runs to win and they did it without breaking a sweat.They won the game by 9 wickets and were crowned the Class 9 Cricket Champions. We had fun playing on our school field after so long.The tournament was very good but we all wished it could have gone on for a bit longer.
