A Golden Team for the Golden Year

St Augustine’s High School has always been known for sporting excellence and the school in the past has won many trophies in football and cricket.

In basketball however the school would usually try but not get very far.

So it’s really great that the school U 17 basketball team did so excellently in this Golden Jubilee Year.

DSO Tournament.

The DSO tournament took place on the 3^rd of December 2022 and team were well trained and ready and anxious to play. On a bright sunny and very memorable day our team beat Don Bosco High School 24 -2 in the opening game. After that very convincing win we moved into the finals where we had to face the defending champions Vidya Vikasini High school.

It was a very intense and insane match .We were not able to hold onto the early lead that we took and the score was tied at 6 -6 with 10 seconds left on the clock. And then Varun scored the winning basket.The entire team wept tears of joy .Winning a DSO level basketball tournament against a team with such a fearsome reputation was indeed an incredible achievement.

Kala Krida Tournament

This great win proved to be only a start for the U 17 team.They went on to participate in the Kala Krida Tournament held in late December. The first match was against Vidya Vikasini B team.It proved to be a bit of a cakewalk. We won the game 34 -2 without breaking into a sweat.In the semi finals we played against Carmelite Convent English High school,who were a team that played rough. No problem, We beat them 37 -5

The finals were against our old opponents Vidya Vikasni Jr college, a tough team out for revenge for the earlier loss in the DSO level tournament.We imagined that it would be a very difficult game and even more intense that the last time we faced this team.

We ended up beating them,the best team in the tournament, by a score of 33-9

Truly the U 17 School Basketball Team proved itself to be the Golden Team of the Golden Year.
