The long awaited finals of the 2nd Robert Correia Memorial Football Tournament finally took place on Children’s Day.
10B and 10C were lucky to get really excellent playing conditions to play the final game. The field covered with freshly trimmed grass, the warm sunshine of the morning hours, the presence of an enthusiastic crowd (made up of the boys of classes 9 and 10 who got to see the game as part of their Children’s Day Celebrations) all helped to make the finals a very pleasant experience this year.
Both the finalists were pretty evenly matched. In the group stage both teams had topped their respective pools with 9 points and an identical goal difference of 12 goals.(which is a bit of a coincidence)
10C had the advantage of having the top scorer of the tournament in their team.Deepesh Kalbate, with 8 goals to his credit, was their captain and star forward.10B for their part had Sujeet Jena( who would eventually go on to win the best forward award) in their arsenal of star players and secret weapons.
The proceedings of the morning were further enlivened by the fact that a group of overenthusiastic amateur commentators kept everyone entertained by presenting an enthusiastic but mostly inaccurate running commentary on the game.
Unfortunately one team had to lose and so one team did.10C,for the second consecutive year, ended up as runners up of the tournament.10B scored first and despite an equaliser from 10C ,then went on to score 2 more goals to eventually win the game fairly comfortably.
Mr Barryan Dabre and Mr Murugan gave out the trophies and prizes at the end.
Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the tournament and in particular to the players of 10B and 10C who gave us an excellent final game played in a spirit of really good sportsmanship.
All the best to all teams for Robert Correia Inter Class Tournment 2021 – 2022.
